Annette is originally from Germany, Northern Bavaria, but has been living in Bristol since 1995. She had taken up yoga in the 1980s as an autodidact but when she discovered the Iyengar Yoga Centre in Bristol, she was immediately fascinated by this style of yoga, especially by its precision and refinement but also its philosophical dimensions of practice. She has been a student at Yogawest ever since.
Having trained with Gerry Chambers and Lynda Purvis, Annette became an Introductory Teacher in 2005, and after more intensive training with Gerry, she obtained an Intermediate Junior Level 3 Certificate in March 2011. She is now working on the Senior syllabus and plans to visit the RIMYI in Pune in a couple of years. Studying with the Iyengars will deepen her knowledge on yoga practice and yoga philosophy which she also has a profound interest in. Annette has been teaching yoga classes at various levels and enjoys working with beginners just as much as the more advanced level classes. Each level has its own challenges and rewards.
In her role as a German and Classics teacher, Annette wrote a PhD-thesis on German lyrics; she has a full-time teaching-post at the University of Bath. The practice of yoga helps her to maintain a healthy work-life-balance. Annette lives in Henleaze, not too far from Yogawest. She and her husband Ingolfur have no kids but two very talkative budgies and four extremely productive chickens. In her spare time she likes cycling and walking, music and reading – and knitting socks.
Annette teaches at Yogawest on Saturday mornings: 9.30>11am (Intermediate 1) and 11.30>1pm (Beginners) and on Wednesday evenings: 6.10>7.40pm (Intermediate 1).

Annette says “I chose Ubaja Padangusthasana for my pose because I like the shape of it and because it is one of those poses which I really struggled with in the beginning (I needed a belt around my feet and could not balance) and which has now turned into an enjoyable pose with a feeling of equilibrium, lightness and balance.”
