Bob-Phillips

Bob Phillips

Bob used to teach at Yogawest and we are delighted to have him back in the building! We expect his class to be very popular and hope to persuade him to add another soon. Bob was born in Croydon and grew up in the fens, East Anglia. He moved to Bristol, then Denmark (and speaks Danish) then came back to Bristol again 30 years ago. He has 2 grown children.

Bob has practised Iyengar yoga for 21 years and taught for 17. Kathy Welham was his main teacher for many years, with her husband Bob sometimes. Kathy trained him here in Bristol.

Bob loves teaching intermediate students for the challenges that involves, but his main love is simply bringing yoga to ordinary folk who might not go otherwise – accessible yoga for all is his only mantra.

One thing that many of Bob’s students don’t know about him is that he grew from 4’10″ to 6′ in eighteen months between the ages of ten and eleven and a half. He says:
“Believe me, I know about growing pains! This might explain my extensive arthritis at this date. In my many trips to hospital, scans, pain clinic etc, it has often been said I must be the bendiest arthritic they ever see.”

Bob’s passions outside the world of yoga are wild camping (he used to call this backpacking but this has been appropriated by youngsters ‘backpacking’ around the world). Stealth camping is another term he likes – camping in the remotest, wildest places, mountain tops etc and walking. Good food, single malt whiskies, good company/friends are all there in the mix.

Bob teaches at Yogawest on Tuesday mornings: 9.15 to 10.25 (General) and 10.30>12noon (Pregnancy Plus).
