Sanskrit Names

Chaitanya Ray will help us take a deeper look at Asana names, what they mean and how they are pronounced in Sanskrit. Major asana names can be dissected into the constituent root sanskrit words, understanding the meaning of the root words and the proper sanskrit pronunciation of the names and how they are written in the Devnagri script.
Recommended preparation: read Patanjali’s first 10 sutras (in English or Sanskrit!). You could also look at the glossary on transliteration and pronunciation given in most yoga sutra books (eg Light on Yoga Sutras by BKS Iyengar), however if you don’t have time, just come anyway: no real preparation is required.

Cost free attendance to those with a current Yogawest card, £5 without.
Registration please register in advance by email – we will add you to the list and let you know what preparation to make for the next meeting.

Uday Bhosale March weekend

Uday Bhosale is teaching his final weekend of a series of workshops at Yogawest over the weekend of March 31st and April 1st. All levels and abilities welcome!
[And he’s also here for an extra teacher’s day on Friday 30th.]

Uday’s weekends have been very popular and if you haven’t yet been, this is your last chance for a while to find out what everyone has been talking about!

Sat Mar 31st and Sun 1st

The last opportunity to experience being taught by Uday Bhosale who usually teaches at the institute in Pune and is in the UK for a few months. Uday is teaching 3 weekend workshops at Yogawest this weekend and judging by his recent workshops here and around the UK, it will be another fantastic weekend. All levels are welcome, and Uday is particularly keen that beginners come too, although we recommend you have done Iyengar yoga regularly for at least 6 months.

If you are only doing one workshop, Uday suggests it’s the first one as each will build on the last, however if this is not possible, he’s happy for you to attend when you can.

Sat 31st Mar 10.30–1.30
Sat 31st Mar 2.30–5
and Sun 1st Apr 10.30–1.30

Cost £30 per workshop or £75 for all 3 (£70 for AIYI members)

March News

The sun is out, so the cushions have come out too: next time you come to class, help yourself to some tea afterwards and sit in the garden for a quiet moment! We’ve made some changes this month: there are 3 new classes on the timetable and by popular request we’ve increased the validity of the Yogacard-6 to 3 calendar months.
Uday Bhosale returns this month for the last time and Lynda and Gerry are back to teach two workshops at the end of April.
Some of our teachers have been taking assessments this month: we congratulate them all for developing their yoga knowledge and look forward to sharing the knowledge they’ve learned on their journey.
