Sheila Haswell is here this weekend!

A perfect way to spend a Saturday…

For our very first workshop of the new Yoga year, we are thrilled that Sheila Haswell is coming to Yogawest this weekend, Friday 28th (experienced students) and Saturday 29th September (all levels).

If you haven’t yet been to a Yoga Day, we highly recommend the Saturday one as a perfect place to start. Sheila has many years of Iyengar experience behind her and has been to the Institute in Pune to study with the Iyengar family more times than we can count. She has a wonderful teaching style: always insightful and warm, with a lovely sense of humour. She welcomes newcomers and Diana and Lizzie will be on hand to make sure you feel at home. (We recommend 6 months of experience in classes).

New to Yoga Days/Workshops?

A yoga day isn’t just a very long class! It’s a well crafted and balanced day, with plenty of talking and opportunity to try new things and ask questions. Sheila will pace the day according to who attends and there will be plenty of rest too.

Experienced Day on Friday 28th

Sheila will teach the morning 10-12 class and a 3-hour workshop in the afternoon. We recommend both days for experienced practitioners!

Yogawest joins the Bristol Pound

The Bristol Pound launched last Wednesday and Yogawest was there with a stall on Corn Street.

It was a great evening, there were dozens of traders there and hundreds of Bristolians keen to purchase their pounds and find out who they could spend them with. If you want to know more about the scheme see

How Do Your Parsnips Grow?

Art at Yogawest

As part of our summer re-fit, we have created an exhibition space in the changing areas. Our first exhibition is by the wonderful Coo Geller, a Yogawest student and talented local artist.

Coo has just finished an M.A in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking at the University of the West of England for which she received a distinction. She was also awarded the Rebecca Smith Fine Art Prize.

Coo’s work is about nature. She says:

“I am drawn to something, perhaps a plant, or a vegetable, and I may notice a tiny aspect of it that I find fascinating. I record this and communicate its special, un-noticed qualities.
“I want to bring the sense of wonderment to my work that I feel for everyday things – a walnut, a parsnip, an acorn….
“I give value to each little thing, and show its importance in the world.”

Pranayama Course starts Oct 3rd

In this 4-week course we will take a closer look at the foundation of all breathing: the respiratory system. You will learn about various kinds of breathing, including the involvement of the respiratory muscles in the breathing process.

We will explore questions such as:
How can we further access our breath? How can we create more breath awareness? How can we modify our breathing so that it becomes pranayama, the art of breathing, the storing and distribution (ayama) of prana, our breath, energy and life force?

We will then move on to learning some pranayama techniques, practising and observing them in different postures, as well as finding out more about some bandhas (locks or seals) and their function in pranayama.

This course is suitable for newcomers to pranayama, or those with some experience who would like to learn more.

4-week course taught by Annette.

Cost: £34
