Events Special

We have some great events in the calendar at Yogawest this Autumn and Winter. Coming to a workshop is an opportunity to focus on and deepen your yoga practice and is a good way to prepare your body and mind for the changing seasons. The next Yoga Day is on November 10th with the wonderful Cathy Rogers Evans, newly back in the UK after 30 years of living and teaching in the States. Cathy welcomes all levels and abilities and is keen to encourage students who haven’t yet tried a yoga day to come to work alongside the more experienced practitioners. Gerry & Lynda teach a Winter Intensive at Yogawest between Christmas and New Year, and Margaret Austin comes to us at the end of January.

We are open at Half Term!

All classes are running as usual at half term, except:

Thursday Nov 1st
Instead of 2 morning classes there will be one general class at 10-11.30: all welcome, and instead of 2 evening classes there will be one general class at 6.15: all welcome.

What is Pranayama?

B.K.S. Iyengar says, “Pranayama is a conscious prolongation of inhalation, retention and exhalation.”
Prana is often describes as the energy of the universe. This energy is the creator, sustainer, and destroyer, and because it permeates everything in the universe it is considered the breath of life. In a pranayama class you learn to access prana, and increase its flow in the body, through various breathing practices.

Pranayama practices manipulate the breath in various ways: extending or shortening the lengths of inhalation and exhalation, suspending the breath, or breathing in other crafted ways. The effects of these practices on the body and mind can be profound, shifting the mood and energy in the body noticeably.
