You may have noticed a couple of shops catering for children, just a few minutes walk from Yogawest. Moodles and Oddsox are the latest additions to the thriving area of Gloucester Road Central. Both businesses are owned by Yogawest students.
Moodles, owned by Sarah Ubhi, opened in January 2014 and specialises in quality children’s clothing. All the clothing is British made, echoing Sarah’s wish to minimise her carbon footprint and her concerns about working conditions in overseas factories.
Sarah’s three children (aged 12, 10 and 8, and also Yogawest students) provide valuable input to Moodles, holding positions of business adviser, creative director and buying assistant!
The independent children’s shoe shop Oddsox was launched by friends Jo Adamson and Sarah Chope in 2012, offering quality footwear at an affordable price. With three children each, they were both aware of the need for a local alternative to the shopping mall. Footwear sizes in Oddsox range from pre-walkers up to an adult size 8.
We wish Sarah, Jo and Sarah continued success with their retail ventures.
Gitte Bechsgaard Ph.D has recently published the highly praised book ‘The Gift of Consciousness – Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras’. The Gift of Consciousness is an engaging overview of the Yoga Sutras seen through the prism of both Eastern and Western psychology.
“The Gift of Consciousness – Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras is to be read by those who love Yoga in general and by practitioners of Yoga in particular. This book acts as a guide book to take a journey from the bank of mundane life towards the bank of spiritual life.” Guruji, Sri BKS Iyengar
Gitte, along with senior teacher Sheila Haswell, will be coming to Yogawest on June 27-29 to teach a number of workshops. These will incorporate lectures, sutra recitation, asanas and pranayama.
Further details will follow, but in the meantime, hold the dates. This will be a very special event.
Following the success of her workshop in November 2013, the Avon Iyengar Yoga Institute have arranged for Firooza Ali, from Mumbai in India, to return to Yogawest to teach a weekend workshop on 31 May and 1 June. If you are interested in attending this workshop, please contact the AIYI direct.
We look forward to seeing Firooza back at Yogawest.
We all know that yoga is good for mental, physical and spiritual nourishment. On the Yogawest website there are a number of articles on the health benefits of a regular yoga practice. Here are links to articles on the benefits of yoga for back pain, neck pain and depression. Share these with anyone you think would benefit from this information.
