Tamara returns in February!

Tamara was away all January to visit the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India. You could follow her blog on our website. She posted regularly and we loved following her yoga experience!

Tamara’s return means that the antenatal class on Wednesday evening at 6.15 – 7.30pm picks up as well! We now have a special offer for ladies signing up for the Pregnancy classes. Interested?

Do you have a friend who is pregnant and would like to try pregnancy yoga? If you encourage them to sign up for 6 classes, both, you and your pregnant friend will get one yoga class for free!

The pregnancy classes are suitable for beginners or those already practicing (13 weeks pregnant or more).

Timetable update advance info

We are nearly ready to publish the new Autumn timetable, but thought you may like some advance info…

New Classes

There’s a new Thursday evening general class with Lizzie at 7pm, a new Intermediate class with Andrea on Sundays at 11.45, a Friday lunchtime class with Andrea at 12.30, and a new beginners class with Frances on Monday evening at 7.15. (Tamara will still teach her very popular Monday 8pm class which will become a general class).

And following the success of the pranayama course in the summer, we have added a regular pranayama course to the timetable on Wednesday evenings.

Time Changes

The early evening classes will now start at 6.15 (instead of 6.10), except on Friday which stays at 6pm.

Tamara’s Wednesday evening beginners class will start 15 mins earlier at 7.45 (until 9.15).

By popular demand Annette’s Saturday morning Intermediate class will start 15 mins later at 9.45 (until 11.15).

The Wednesday evening pregnancy class will at 6.15 until 7.30 and will now run as a course: you can book for 6 weeks in advance, although drop-in is still possible.

The Wednesday early morning class stays at it’s new time of 7.30 and is bookable as a course: we need 5 bookings to secure it will run.

Class level changes

Janet’s Monday 10.30 class and Diana’s Wednesday 10am class will become general classes. Beginners are very welcome of course: the change of name simply reflects the fact that many people in the class have been coming for a long time and are no longer beginners. Janet and Diana will continue to teach an appropriate level of yoga for the students who come and will look after new beginners.

Class name changes

At Intermediate level, instead of having Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2, we will now have Intermediate and Experienced.

Intermediate classes are suitable for students who have been coming regularly to beginner or general classes and are ready to learn asanas at a more detailed level, and to add new asanas to their practice. Your teacher can advise you if you are ready to try an Intermediate class.

Experienced classes are for students, teachers and trainees who have regularly attended Iyengar classes for more than 2 years, and are confident in maintaining a stable Sirsasana for 5 minutes and Sarvangasana for 8 minutes.

Why Yoga?

Yoga is a wonderful activity to do when pregnant. It prepares your body and mind for birth, keeps you moving and is a lovely way to meet other Mums-to-be in the area. Midwives and Doulas recognise the benefits of regular yoga when pregnant and we are always delighted when they come to class themselves.

At Yogawest we have 2 antenatal classes a week: one on Tuesday morning at 10.30 taught by Bob (runs as a course), and one on Wednesday evening at 6.10pm taught by Tamara (currently drop-in).

Pregnancy classes are suitable for beginners or those already practising (you need to be 13 weeks or more). Yoga students in other classes who become pregnant can usually continue to attend their normal class well into pregnancy but should talk to their teacher and also consult their midwife or doctor.

Wednesday Evening 6.10–7.40

The Wednesday evening class is currently a drop-in class (which will change in September to 6-week courses). It’s best to talk to us first so we can confirm details, or you can just drop in (come early on your first time to register with us).

Midwives welcome!

Are you a local midwife or Doula? Would you like to visit us and see a pregnancy class in action? We’d love you to come: email us to arrange.
