Giftcards for Christmas, Birthday and Thankyous

We are offering 10% off Foundation Courses or a Yogacard-6 (6 yoga classes) when buying them as a gift this December.

Yogacard-6s are usually £60, so with 10% off will be £54.

Foundation courses are usually £49, and with the discount will be £44.

Giftcards must be purchased before 31 December to claim the 10% discount.

Introduction to Iyengar Yoga for Newcomers

SATURDAY JANUARY 19TH 2.30–3.30

Are you interested in finding out more about yoga?

We invite you to come to this free 60 minute class at Yogawest, as part of the National Iyengar Yoga Day.

Joanna Lambe will guide you through this introductory class. You will learn a few foundation yoga poses, and get a sense of what to expect in a yoga class. Joanna will explain along the way how yoga can benefit you, and there will be a chance to ask questions at the end.

All equipment provided, wear clothing that you can move in, leggings and T-shirt ideal; yoga is a bare foot activity! 

Time 2.30–3.30pm

A 4 or 5-week foundation course for complete beginners or people wanting to revisit the basics. The course is designed to introduce you to the fundamental poses and principles of yoga practice.

Teen Yoga Courses (11–16s)

We have three Teen Yoga courses running every school term.

 

These classes are very popular and pre-booking is required to secure your place. Newcomers can book to try out a class, and if they like it they can sign up for the remainder of the course.

Beginners Courses

Beginners Courses at Yogawest

Although there are plenty of drop-in beginner classes on the Yogawest timetable, some people prefer to come to the same class every week following a course structure in which they can be guided through a series of classes over several weeks.

Beginner course are suitable for complete beginners, returners or those graduating from a foundation course.

Which classes are running?

Many of our usual classes are still running over the festive period, but as teachers are fewer on the ground, some classes are not on.

Which classes are suitable?

To make things simpler, and to include everyone in our plans, many classes are billed as general level – this means that ALL are welcome, whatever your experience or ability (the teacher will adapt the class accordingly). Beginners are encouraged to general classes: just let the teacher know you are new and they will look after you.

Lizzie’s popular 2-hour class on Thursday morning is open to all levels of students and although it’s usually a ladies class, men are welcome and encouraged during the reduced timetable period. It is taught at intermediate level, but beginners are very welcome to come and see what an intermediate class involves – Lizzie will welcome you!

Who is teaching?

Some of our usual teachers are taking a well-earned break over Christmas, and recharging their batteries for the New Year. All classes are being taught by fully trained Yogawest Iyengar teachers.

Children’s Yoga Classes at Yogawest

Children’s Yoga

Rosenwyn_tree-pose-lrJocasta Crofts teaches two Children’s Yoga classes at Yogawest on Tuesdays: beginners start in the 4.15pm class (Level 1), and those with more experience come to the 5pm (Level 2) class.

Level 1, Yoga for 6 – 11s

Tuesdays 4.15 til 5pm

This is a beginner class which offers a fun introduction to yoga. Combining storytelling, yoga games and classic yoga poses, Jocasta is a warm and creative teacher who gives individual attention to each child in the class.

Level 2, Yoga for 6 – 11s 

Tuesdays, 5 til 5.45pm

This group learn enjoyable, flowing yoga sequences, sometimes energetic, sometimes calming and all sessions end with relaxation.

Classes are limited to 12 children and booking in advance is required.

Early Morning Class

Pregnancy Yoga at Yogawest

Yoga is a beneficial and enjoyable activity to do when pregnant. It prepares your body and mind for birth, keeps you moving and is a lovely way to meet other Mums-to-be in the area. Midwives and Doulas recognise the benefits of regular yoga when pregnant and we are always delighted when they come to class themselves.

 From January the Course will be at the New Time of 12.30–1.30

Out of termtime you may be able to attend regular classes at Yogawest, but this is at the discretion of the class teacher, and if you are not already practicing yoga will be after 13 weeks and assumes there are no medical complications:

Coming to Regular Classes When Pregnant

Students can usually continue attending their usual class(es) once they become pregnant, but it’s important that the teacher is aware (email us so we can let the teacher know you are coming, or arrive 15 mins before class). You may prefer to wait until 13 weeks when you can join the pregnancy class which is suitable for existing practitioners and complete beginners. During weeks 10-13 of the pregnancy you can’t come to regular classes but, if you are an existing Iyengar practitioner, you may be able to come to the restorative class on a Friday evening with advance permission (email us to check, confirming you have no complications). NB: we do not accept new pregnant students to regular classes until after 13 weeks, and then it is with permission of the class teacher.
