Re-opening plans

last updated 13 May 2021

Until things are a little clearer and we can set a date to re-open the building, all Yogawest classes remain online.

Plans for re-opening in June

Yogawest is taking a cautious approach to re-opening. Although the government have now confirmed that indoor yoga classes can re-start from 17 May (with social distancing restrictions), the very latest news about variants suggests that things are again uncertain.

We think it would be unwise to announce a date to re-open the Yogawest building until the situation is clearer. We are keeping a close eye on the news and will review how things stand at the end of May.

All being well, we will be able to announce our re-opening date during the first week of June.

In the meantime, our wonderful Yogawest teachers continue to offer daily online classes and we appreciate your ongoing support. For those that haven’t been able to join us online, we hope that you are safe and well and we look forward to welcoming you back to Yogawest when we can re-open.

Yogawest community survey

In anticipation of restarting physical classes at Yogawest when possible, we want to find out how you are feeling about returning to in-house classes.

Thank you to those that have already completed the survey: your responses and suggestions have been very helpful and are informing our plans to re-open. It is clear from the responses so far that there is an overwhelming desire to get back into the studios at Yogawest when it’s safe, possible and sensible.

If you haven’t yet responded, we’d still love to hear from you, whatever your connection to Yogawest is: current and past students and teachers, friends near and far, all feedback is welcomed.

Click here to add your thoughts to the ‘Yogawest Community Feedback’ survey.

Thank you to all

The last year has been an incredibly challenging time for all of us in many different ways, with dramatic changes in all our lives. Little did we know in March 2020 what was ahead for all of us and how much we would still be impacted going into summer 2021.

The Yogawest team of staff and teachers have faced many challenges during the last year and we thank them for their continued support and dedication to establishing the online classes and for keeping our wonderful yoga community together.

Lockdown2 at Yogawest

Lockdown 2.0 until 2 December 2020

Yogawest closed it’s physical doors again on 5 November and this time around, we have transferred all our timetabled classes online. Please book your class as usual in your Yogawest account: you can use your existing packs or choose to pay the full or a reduced fee.

Thank you to the Yogawest teachers who have been teaching such wonderful socially distanced classes at Yogawest since we re-opened post ‘lockdown1’, we are very happy that we can continue these classes online during this lockdown.

Cost of classes

Although we can’t open the Yogawest building, the overheads of running the building and the business continue. Alongside so many independents, Yogawest is in survival mode and the bottom line is that we need income. Many of our regulars have offered to pay for their online classes at the full class fee during lockdown which is very much appreciated, but we do recognise that not everyone can do that, so we have introduced an ‘Online Reduced Rate’ class pack giving (approximately) a third off most classes.

Online class reduced rate £10 Available for classes (up to 90mins) that are usually in the studio and are run online during lockdown.

Online 2-hr class reduced rate £15 Available for classes (up to 90mins) that are usually in the studio and are run online during lockdown.

Full timetable resumes 3rd January 2020

The Spring timetable at Yogawest

The full timetable restarts on Friday 3rd January, download your copy here or pick up a copy at reception. Full up-to-date details are on the online timetable.

NOTE that some termtime and courses start later: check termtime classes dates and course dates.

Low cost classes

Yogawest offers some classes to those with low wages (eg NHS, students) and operates on a fairplay basis to those who cannot afford to come to class otherwise. Classes currently listed include the 4.30 Friday class and the Saturday 4pm class and details are updated regularly here.

Quieter classes

January is a busy time at Yogawest and some classes can get quite full: this makes for a great atmosphere – seasoned yoga practitioners usually enjoy busy classes. However, some people prefer quieter classes and we regularly update our list of current quiet classes here

1:1 classes

Yogawest offers one-to-one classes for people who want a little more attention, perhaps because of a particular injury, or those who are unable to attend group classes. Classes are by arrangement, and are usually an hour long. More info here

Farewell to Harry

We wish you well and will miss you !

Harry said “Bristol has been the best years of my life and yoga is the best of Bristol”

Harry has been coming to a weekly class with Jess and Melroy since he started yoga at the age of 96 a few years ago.

It’s been a joy to have Harry in class at Yogawest and he has inspired younger newcomers to the Gentle class with his ‘can-do’ attitude, agility and quick wit.

A huge thank you is due to Jess and Melroy who have guided Harry through his yoga practice at Yogawest, with patience and great caring.

We threw Harry a tea party to celebrate his retirement from yoga classes this Autumn at the amazing age of 99. It was great to let him know how much we’ve enjoyed having him at Yogawest over the last few years: Harry is truly an example to us all!

Christmas Timetable 2019

Cxmastreepose-150x150lasses are running every day throughout the holiday period at Yogawest, except on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Download the Christmas Timetable 2019

A big thank you to the Yogawest teachers who are keeping classes going over the festive period.

The updated Yogawest timetable resumes on Thursday 3rd January 2020, printed copies will be available to download online from mid December.
NOTE Check course and termtime start dates online as they may differ:

Which classes are running?

Many of our usual classes are still running over the festive period, but as teachers are fewer on the ground, some classes are not on.

Which classes are suitable?

To make things simpler, and to include everyone in our plans, many classes are billed as general level – this means that ALL are welcome, whatever your experience or ability (the teacher will adapt the class accordingly). Beginners are encouraged to general classes: just let the teacher know you are new and they will look after you.

Who is teaching?

Some of our usual teachers are taking a well-earned break over Christmas, and recharging their batteries for the New Year. All classes are being taught by fully certified Yogawest Iyengar teachers.
