NEW Saturday morning General class

Saturday 9:30 General class with Joanna starts 16 October

Joanna’s Sunday morning class is very popular and gets pretty busy. So we’re happy to announce that Joanna has agreed to add a Saturday morning class to the timetable.

Numbers are capped for this class (it’s in Studio 2), so if you’d prefer a quieter class with more attention from Joanna, this is the class for you! (And we know that some may book for both classes).

General classes are suitable for all abilities. Beginners are welcome: just let Joanna know you are new to yoga.

Book your place on the timetable here.

Complete newcomers to yoga should also consider taking a 4-week Foundation Course.

Re-opening plans

last updated 13 May 2021

Until things are a little clearer and we can set a date to re-open the building, all Yogawest classes remain online.

Plans for re-opening in June

Yogawest is taking a cautious approach to re-opening. Although the government have now confirmed that indoor yoga classes can re-start from 17 May (with social distancing restrictions), the very latest news about variants suggests that things are again uncertain.

We think it would be unwise to announce a date to re-open the Yogawest building until the situation is clearer. We are keeping a close eye on the news and will review how things stand at the end of May.

All being well, we will be able to announce our re-opening date during the first week of June.

In the meantime, our wonderful Yogawest teachers continue to offer daily online classes and we appreciate your ongoing support. For those that haven’t been able to join us online, we hope that you are safe and well and we look forward to welcoming you back to Yogawest when we can re-open.

Yogawest community survey

In anticipation of restarting physical classes at Yogawest when possible, we want to find out how you are feeling about returning to in-house classes.

Thank you to those that have already completed the survey: your responses and suggestions have been very helpful and are informing our plans to re-open. It is clear from the responses so far that there is an overwhelming desire to get back into the studios at Yogawest when it’s safe, possible and sensible.

If you haven’t yet responded, we’d still love to hear from you, whatever your connection to Yogawest is: current and past students and teachers, friends near and far, all feedback is welcomed.

Click here to add your thoughts to the ‘Yogawest Community Feedback’ survey.

Thank you to all

The last year has been an incredibly challenging time for all of us in many different ways, with dramatic changes in all our lives. Little did we know in March 2020 what was ahead for all of us and how much we would still be impacted going into summer 2021.

The Yogawest team of staff and teachers have faced many challenges during the last year and we thank them for their continued support and dedication to establishing the online classes and for keeping our wonderful yoga community together.

Please book your online class as usual in your Yogawest account: you can use your existing packs or choose to pay the full or a reduced fee.

Thank you to the wonderful Yogawest teachers who have been looking after the Yogawest community online during the pandemic: we know how challenging it has been and are full of admiration of how you have all coped and adapted and blossomed in the virtual world. It is clear that we ALL want to get back to real life classes as soon as we can!

Cost of online classes

Many of our regulars have wanted to pay for their online classes at the full class fee during the pandemic which is very much appreciated, but we do recognise that not everyone can do that, so we offer an ‘Online Reduced Rate’ class pack giving (approximately) a third off most classes.

Online class reduced rate £10 Available for classes (up to 90mins) that are usually in the studio and are run online during lockdown.

Online 2-hr class reduced rate £15 Available for classes (up to 90mins) that are usually in the studio and are run online during lockdown.

The Autumn timetable at Yogawest

The updated full timetable begins on Saturday 1st September and is published here

NB Some termtime and courses start later: check termtime classes dates and course dates

There are some additions and updates this Autumn, with highlights as follows:

Lydia’s Wednesday evening classes

Lydia has extended her Intermediate class on Wednesday evening to 2-hours, which means that her General class starts at the new time of 5pm, and the Intermediate class runs from 6.45–8.45pm.

And a heads up for fans of Lydia: we will be announcing some Junior Intermediate workshop days shortly!

NEW beginner courses

These courses are for those who like to come to the same class every week; you will be guided through a series of classes over several weeks focusing on the introductory syllabus poses. Suitable for new or long term beginner level students, including those who have completed a foundation course and those who are returning to yoga after a break. More info here

1:1 classes

Yogawest offers one-to-one classes for people who want a little more attention, perhaps because of a particular injury, or those who are unable to attend group classes. Classes are by arrangement, and are usually an hour long. More info here

Improvers class: prepare for Intermediate classes

This class, on Thursday evenings is taught by Annemarie. For those who have been going to beginner or general classes and want to build confidence and levels of understanding and maturity in asanas before attending intermediate classes.
It’s a safe place to ask, try and experiment. More info here

Friday evening Beginner Class, NEW time 4.30pm

Joanna’s Friday beginner class is now scheduled at 4.30pm on Friday: a great choice for those coming after a school day, and particularly suitable for parents and teenagers to attend together.

Early Morning class now drop-in!

The early morning class runs during termtimes, plus some reduced timetable periods and is a one hour general level class (suitable for all), taught by Jess Wallwork in term times and by others during holidays.

Designed to help you start your working day well, this class is now running year-round and is a drop-in class so you can use your Yogacard. More info and dates listed here

Quieter Classes Available

Autumn is a busy time at Yogawest and some classes can get quite full: this makes for a great atmosphere – seasoned yoga practitioners usually enjoy busy classes. However, some people prefer quieter classes and we regularly update our list of current quiet classes here

Welcome to the new Yogawest Teachers

In September 2017 Yogawest is adding several new classes and teachers to the timetable.

LydiaHolmes_7077_170wrWe are delighted to have persuaded the marvellous Lydia Holmes to teach 2 classes for us on a Wednesday night: a General at 5.30pm and an Intermediate class at 7.15pm. They will start at 90 minutes each, and we hope that the Intermediate class will change to 2-hour class before too long. Perhaps some of you will do both the classes! Many of you know Lydia as she has regularly covered classes at Yogawest, and she also assists Sheila Haswell on the teacher training course.

Naomi_ParsvakonasanaHRWe have asked all our newly qualified Iyengar teachers to take on classes: we hope you will come and try them and find out what marvellous new talent there is in the building. Both Naomi and Joanna have been teaching classes over the summer and we are getting great feedback – well done to both of you! It can be quite daunting when you start teaching, but those trained at Yogawest by Sheila Haswell are well prepared for taking on classes with confidence and a solid knowledge.

Lucy Payne (Monday 12.30 General)
George Healy (Monday 8pm Beginners)
Naomi Maggs (Wednesday 5pm Beginners)
