Yuletide at Yogawest

Yogawest is getting into the swing of the festive season. We have just finalised the Christmas timetable and are pleased to tell you that this year we have plenty of classes happening in the period between Christmas and New Year. See Christmas Timetable.

On the present front we can offer you some unusual gift ideas: Cecily’s gorgeous yoga plaques are still in stock and she has made us some beautiful Yoga Angels which look great hanging from a tree! And if you are looking for a creative and useful gift you can buy a Yogacard-6 for a new-to-Yogawest student for 10% off the usual £51 price. Call in or phone us on 924 3330 to purchase. We can package it up and post it for you too – just ask. And we love our beautiful yoga plates made be Morag Macinnes. See gift page.

As The Temperature Drops Outside

We’ve turned the radiators up inside and are running them for longer periods to keep the studio warm. We have some ‘community slippers’  on the shelves for you to use between the studio and the changing rooms if you get cold feet.

Children’s taster class

Tuesday Dec 6th 4.15 to 5pm

£5.

An opportunity for your child to try a yoga class before committing to a 6-week course.

Children really enjoy doing yoga and it’s a lovely discipline to learn when young. It is taught in a different way from adult yoga, so we run 6-week courses after school for 2 different age groups. After the age of 14, teenagers are welcome to come with their parents to adult classes, but they may prefer to come to children’s classes up until they are 16.

You can let us know you are coming (info@yogawest.co.uk), or just turn up!

6-week courses begin in January. More info.

There’s a lot going on at Yogawest

This Autumn has been busy so far: we’ve been adding new classes to the timetable (we now have 3 classes at school drop-off time and a new early morning class), booking in guest teachers and continuing to work on the building. The online timetable has the  up to date class info. If you know anyone wanting to start yoga, we have a Foundation Course starting on 15th November.

We now have some wonderful photos of Guruji up on the wall in Studio 1. Our lovely statue of Patanjali arrived from Pune a few weeks ago, and this week so have Jess and Melroy, back from a month of study there. We’ve just had a new bin shed built out front which also gives some extra potential for bike locking.

On the workshop front, we’ve booked Uday Bhosale from the Institute in Pune to run a series of workshops for us, and Rajiv Chanchani has confirmed he’ll be teaching at Yogawest next May – something to look forward to!

Don’t forget there’s a monthly pranayama class (1st Friday/month 8.30am) and Study Group (3rd Friday/month 6pm) – both worth putting in your diary.

Parent/teenager yoga

Teenagers can really benefit from yoga: as well as flexibility and calmness, it helps with focus and concentration, particularly at times of stress. We find that some teenagers really enjoy doing a class with a parent (and we are big fans of multi-generational classes). For mature 14s and above, there are a couple of classes that are particularly suitable: Fridays at 6pm (an end of week restorative class), Sundays at 10am (general class) and Wednesday at 8pm (Beginners) would be good to try. While adjusting to an adult class, some teenagers may prefer to leave after an hour: please talk to the teacher about this so they can plan the class accordingly.

Family Class

We’ve had a request to add a Sunday family class from 11.45 to 12.30 and are hoping to put this on the timetable soon. In Iyengar yoga we don’t teach under 7s, so the class will be for 7s and up. You will be able to use your Yogacard-6 or 12, or drop-in will be adults (14 and up): £10 (£8 concession), children (7 to 13): £4 each.

We are hoping to extend this in the future so that the whole family would be welcome to come to the class and the under-7s could play while the older children and adults do the class.

If you are interested in coming to this class, email us and ask us to let you know when it starts.
