Annemarie first began yoga as a teenager in New York and discovered the Iyengar method when she came to Bristol in 1997. She immediately recognised the benefits that Iyengar yoga could bring: a feeling of well being, calm and challenge. She loves its lineage, rigourous methodology, and clarity in instructions.
She was inspired to teach after attending the 2009 UK convention taught by Geetaji Iyengar.
Annemarie holds a Junior Intermediate 2 level certificate and visited the Ramamani Iyengar Institute in Pune in 2015. She regularly attends the Iyengar UK annual conventions as well as taking advantage of teachings from senior teachers in the UK and Europe.
Annemarie is particularly interested in the mind and body connection of yoga: ‘Yoga asks you to draw on physical strength, as well as discipline, tolerance and persistence, to see that it isn’t just about the exercise, but about who you are at that moment. It has challenged my patience and tenacity as well as calmed and comforted.’
Annemarie teaches at Yogawest on Monday morning: 9.30>11 (General), Tuesday evenings: 18.00>19.00 (Foundation), 19.15>20.30 (Beginners) and on Thursdays at 19.45>21.15 (Improvers).
