Practice Leaflets for Charity

Practice Sequences

Sam_charityleaflets2_734Sam Xenofou is offering a set of beautifully produced practice sequences for sale at Yogawest. These have been printed in conjunction with her Iyengar-teacher colleague from Athens Katerina Pylava. Donations are being collected for Doctors Without Borders, an organisation working with refugees in her home country of Greece.

The sequences presented in the leaflets are based on the Iyengar system and they are structured in such a way that each asana prepares the body for the next one, with each sequence being beneficial for the nervous system.

The leaflets are on display at Yogawest with a donation box nearby. Sam requests a minimum donation of £5.00 per leaflet.

Money collected from the practice leaflets will support refugees who arrive in Greece having fled their countries in the Middle East and Africa. The contribution to the Doctors Without Borders organisation will help towards this worthy cause.

Sam and Katerina feel very passionate about the cause and are very grateful for your support.

If you don’t live in Bristol and would like to order a set of the sequences (4 in total) for £25, email us to find out how to order.

Welcome to the new Yogawest Teachers

In September 2017 Yogawest is adding several new classes and teachers to the timetable.

LydiaHolmes_7077_170wrWe are delighted to have persuaded the marvellous Lydia Holmes to teach 2 classes for us on a Wednesday night: a General at 5.30pm and an Intermediate class at 7.15pm. They will start at 90 minutes each, and we hope that the Intermediate class will change to 2-hour class before too long. Perhaps some of you will do both the classes! Many of you know Lydia as she has regularly covered classes at Yogawest, and she also assists Sheila Haswell on the teacher training course.

Naomi_ParsvakonasanaHRWe have asked all our newly qualified Iyengar teachers to take on classes: we hope you will come and try them and find out what marvellous new talent there is in the building. Both Naomi and Joanna have been teaching classes over the summer and we are getting great feedback – well done to both of you! It can be quite daunting when you start teaching, but those trained at Yogawest by Sheila Haswell are well prepared for taking on classes with confidence and a solid knowledge.

Our new teachers

Lucy Payne (Monday 12.30 General)
George Healy (Monday 8pm Beginners)
Naomi Maggs (Wednesday 5pm Beginners)
Harriet St Leger (Wednesday 6.30pm Beginners)

Meet Harry

Meet Harry!

SONY DSCHarry is a newcomer to Yogawest and started attending the Gentle class on a Monday Afternoon. He is the perfect example of how Iyengar yoga is suitable for all ages and abilities and there’s no such thing as too old: at 96, Harry is still agile and remarkably fit. Many thanks to Jess and Melroy for making him so welcome in class.

5-year celebration December 3rd

Happy 5th anniversary!

SONY DSCWe are celebrating five years since we took over at Yogawest.

Much has happened here during the last five years: we have steadily added classes (there are now over 45 classes on the termtime timetable) and have an amazing team of 17 teachers and 5 admin staff. And we’ve held some brilliant events at Yogawest during that time taught by local and international teachers alike.

So, it’s time to celebrate!

5th Anniversary Celebration Party Saturday afternoon, December 3rd, 3.30-7.30pm

yogawest-openday-pose-7136We are marking the occasion by offering a celebratory class to be taught by at least five (!) Yogawest teachers, this is open to all, but please book your place for the class as we expect it to be busy.

The class will be followed by a party: a chance to catch up with fellow students and teachers in possibly a more relaxed atmosphere than in class! Let reception know if you are planning to come.

The Class, December 3rd, 3.30-5.30

The class will be based around the number five with poses, sequences, teachers appearing in variants of five. Five is a special number in yoga: many aspects of yoga philosophy involve five aspects; expect five of everything!

Places for the class are limited and are bookable at reception by a £10 charitable donation which will go to the Julian Trust, a local homeless charity.

The Party, December 3rd, 5.30–7.30

Come and celebrate our anniversary with drinks, snacks, and Winter cheer. Yogawest teachers and staff are looking forward to letting our hair down and getting to know our students a little better!

Yogacard Raffle

yogawest-gardenparty-7124We have revived our popular Yogacard raffle this year. Write your contact details on your finished Yogacard and hand it in to reception for the raffle box. The draw for some Yogawest-related prizes will take place at the party. If you prepay for a course then at the end of the course you can fill in a card to be entered for the raffle so you won’t miss out!
